As Paris Fashion Week draws to a close, here are a few of my favorites this season. The top of my list has to be Alber Elbaz's collection for Lanvin. I love the surge of brights, particularly the citron, tangerine and fuschia. He let these colors stand boldly on their own and moved on to wines paired back to reds and navy back to teals. His subtlety of form and gentle draping in unadorned silk duchess, gazar and cloque shined throughout and were the true focus of the show.
Moving on to Stella McCartney who somehow managed to make the shoulder pad look fresh and new again. Her palette was a paler version of her Spring 2007 collection. The most notable colors being a range of turquoise (a season favorite) and her use of nude paired back to white or black. Stella updated her boyfriend blazer and tuxedo jacket by echoing the importance of structured duchess satin and silk shantung. All this was energized with playful exploded jacquard intarsia knits and devore jersey.
Nicolas Ghesquière continues on his futuristic vibe which has helped define the Baleciaga house since he came on board. I can see a bit of his Autumn 2003 collection remixed, but done lighter in piped silk organdy as opposed to the prior heavy deconstructive corsetry. In his textural tinsel like creations he boldly goes where no man has gone before (please excuse the pun).
